I. What is FindTime?
FindTime v2.0 is a multi purpose modem/file utility. You've seen file
upload taggers. And occasionally, you've seen transfer time estimating
utilities. Well here they are both in one package.
FindTime is fully configurable. I don't know about all of you, but I
do most all my modem transfers from one directory. Even though I may not
want to send everything in that directory. Findtime works like many other
upload taggers but with a little more flexibility. You can browse through
all your files in an upload directory, picking and choosing the ones you
want. Or you can use findtime, and narrow that search down to....say...
just the GIFs or just the ZIPs.
With FindTime v2.0, you also have a default configuration of
1. What directory, and filespecs you normally like to browse
through.
2. You're able to specify what file name you want to hold your
marked/tagged files for upload.
3. You can specify any output you want for the time estimates
that are calculated for you.
4. A default bytes per second rate for time calculations.

II. Installation:
1. UnZip the archive FTV20.ZIP into your communications directory.
2. Invoke by typing:
FTV20 < RETURN >
III. Running FindTime v2.0
NOTE: FindTime has been found to act funny with some Cache programs.
I use PC Tools cache and it seems ok. The only one I know it acts up
on is ZCACHE by Zenith Data Systems although I don't know why. If the
program locks on the file selection screen, this is probably the case.
1. You will first be presented with a typical shareware beg screen
(and I do mean beg!). Press any key to descend to the first screen,
or <Esc> to end the program now.
2. You then be shown the current program defaults.
Use the arrow keys to scroll through to change, <ENTER> selects
an item for change and pressing <ENTER> while the word "Continue"
is highlited will exit this screen.
A. Default FileSpec:
This is the file spec that is used to pull your file "Shopping
list" from. For example, I want to upload 5 of my 10 ZIPs in
my C:\UPLOAD directory. I may have GIFs, LZH's and everything
else in this directory but if I specify " C:\UPLOAD\*.ZIP "
as my Default FileSpec then all I will have to browse through
there is my ZIP files. (You can choose no default by pressing
enter on this choice and pressing enter again without typing
anything. The word "NONE" will appear in its place.) Here are
some examples:
VALID:
C:\UPLOADS\*.*
C:\UPLOADS\F*.ZIP
C:\*.*
C:\????????.???
INVALID:
C:\UPLOADS\ <--\
C:\UPLOADS <----| These aren't file specs
C:\ <--/
B. File Name for SendList:
Select this option to insert the name of your upload file list
that will automatically be generated for you. If you specify a
file, an ASCII file of the path/filenames will be generated for
each file you choose later. This file is compatable with various
protocols which use the "@<FILELIST" option such as ZModem and
Puma. (Once again, if you do not want a file list generated, but
only are interested in time estimates, simply press enter while
this option is highlited and press enter again without typing
anything.)
C. Report Destination:
Select this option for the time estimates that will be generated
for you based on the file lengths and the Characters Per Second
rate. Press enter to change this option, then use the cursor keys
to select either Screen, File or Printer. If you choose "File"
the time estimate report will be written to an ASCII file named
SENDLIST.TXT.
D. Characters Per Second:
Now, this was a tough decision. In FindTime v1.0 I had a separate
program which allowed you to input your baud rate if you didn't
know your average Characters Per Second (CPS) rate, and it made
a "best guess". Well, I soon realized that the average CPS rate
for each user and system vary greatly depending on a plethora of
reasons. Most modem users (especially regulars) have a pretty
good idea of that their CPS rate is (mine happens to be 234 CPS
for my 2400 baud modem). Press enter on this option to change,
then enter your CPS rate.
3. Once you have selected "Continue" you will see the selection screen,
unless FindTime didn't find any files in your FileSpec.
A. Use the Arrow Keys to scroll through the files in your FileSpec.
B. The Space Bar tags or un-tags a file. When a file is tagged. An
arrowhead will appear to the left of the name.
4. Press Escape to tell FindTime that your list is complete. At this
a few things will happen:
A. If you have named a SendList file name, it will be written.
B. The time calculations results will be written, be it the Screen,
a File or the Printer.
